Quest Federal Credit Union would like to remind members and account holders about Empty Envelope fraud. Empty-envelope fraud is an attempt to perform ATM deposits using envelopes that are either completely empty or hold deposits of cash or checks for amounts that are less than what they have keyed in at the ATM. Individuals will attempt to have the account holder make the deposit and then immediately ask for withdrawal of the monies deposited, usually with a promise to pay the account holder a small amount for the help. This act is fraudulent behavior and is punishable by law. Therefore, it is important to remember these helpful security measures that everyone can take to ensure that you are not a victim of fraud.
  • Do not accept and/or deposit envelopes prepared by anyone other than yourself.
  • Do not accept deposit envelopes prepared by others regardless of the content as any check contained therein could also be fraudulently written.
  • If there are parked cars or suspicious individuals hanging around the ATM, regardless of time-of-day, we recommend that you drive away and contact the credit union or local law enforcement.
